About
Originally from Union City, California, David started his dancing journey at James Logan High School. Inspired to learn more he began taking dance classes during his first year at San Jose State University. While at SJSU, David trained under the Co-Artistic Director, Gary Masters, and had the opportunity to perform in his dance company, Limon Dance Company. David’s focus of study while at SJSU was in jazz, tap, and ballet. He also danced and performed under the Director, Janie Scott, in the musical theatre review ensemble, “Company One.” David also delved into the world of hip hop with AK Modern.
After a few years at SJSU, David took a leap in hopes to push him to new heights and transferred to the University of California, Irvine where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance performance. At UCI, David trained under Sheron Wray, Loretta Livingston, Chad Michael Hall, Jodie Gates, Molly Lynch, and world-renowned Donald McKayle. Throughout his stay at UCI, David performed in various student and faculty works, danced in the prestigious Donald McKayle’s Etude Ensemble and conducted choreographic research funded by UCI as a part of his senior thesis.
David is currently the Company director for Rogue Makers out of Pasadena. They have performed at various hip hop/ dance shows throughout SoCal such as Vibe Dance Competition, and Arena SoCal. Last year, he competed in Hip Hop International in Arizona where he placed 3rd in the adult division with Rogue Makers and 2nd in the mega crew division with Maker Empire under the direction of Beau Fournier. David has also been mentored in street styles such as house under Basa and whacking under Lorena Valenzuela. He was the supervising ambassador for Movement Lifestyle, helping to reconnect the dance industry with the SoCal hip hop community, understanding the importance of community and history.
Outside of the education system, David has been a featured dancer on the Nickelodeon Network, hip hop dancer at Great America in Santa Clara, performed with the American Ballet of Los Angeles, California Contemporary Ballet, Gina Starbuck’s Art4life, and is currently on the hip hop company Family Bizness. In addition to performing, David enjoys choreographing and sharing his art through teaching all throughout Southern California.
